In a World Where Tasting Room Experiences are Paramount, Everen Wines Tops the List
In an industry where well-made wines are mandatory for bringing in and keeping customers, wine consumers are increasingly asking for great experiences at the tasting room as well. That’s clearly the business model at one of Walla Walla’s newest wineries, Everen Wines, which absolutely hits it out of the park.
Founder/Owners Matt Aksel and Hope Trumbull have created a welcoming environment that grabs you as you enter, carries you through a beautifully orchestrated flight of wines and small bites, and leaves you with a “can’t wait to come back” feeling. For wine enthusiasts looking for a memorable experience, it simply doesn’t get any better than that.
Finessed winemaking, nuanced flavors, and Old World style are the hallmarks of their wines, and nothing sums this up better than the 2022 Left-Bank Bordeaux Blend. The base of 70-percent Red Mountain AVA Cabernet Sauvignon is finished with a splash of Merlot from the same appellation along with a bit of Yakima Valley AVA Cabernet Franc. The dark fruits really shine on this wine, with black currant and black plum at the forefront, followed by notes of graphite, fresh herbs, and bittersweet chocolate on a velvety-soft finish. Contemplative and delicious!
Other highly recommended wines that were enjoyed at a recent tasting include the 2022 Chardonnay, 2022 Cabernet Franc, 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2023 Riesling. All of these wines fall into the $42 to $58 price range and they’re absolutely stunning.
One small note that may act as a deterrent to some: a $45 per person tasting fee (waived with a two bottle purchase). Rest easy on this. The tasting fee covers a flight of five generous pours, Hope’s meticulously prepared and perfectly paired small bites, and Matt’s informative walk-through on each of the wines. The warm and friendly atmosphere here is second to none. So even if for some unknown reason you don’t make a purchase, you’re practically guaranteed to leave Everen feeling that the visit was well worth it.
