Glen Fiona Offers Nice Selection of Syrahs

If you like Syrahs you need to give Glen Fiona wines a try. The winery specializes in this tasty varietal, with five of their six current releases either a Syrah or Rhone-like Syrah blend.

Of all the wines I tried on a recent visit, the 2001 Cuvee Parallel 46 (about $25) impressed me the most.

This wine is a blend of 55 percent Syrah, 25 percent Cinsault and 20 percent Counoise grapes. It’s a scrumptious medium-bodied red that begins with berry and cherry fruit flavors and is followed by plenty of black pepper, cinnamon and clove. With all these spices you might mistake it for a Zinfandel, and like a Zin, you should enjoy it with duck, pork or grilled foods.

One thing I really appreciated about Glen Fiona wines was their reasonable prices – a good $5 to $10 less than many of the Syrahs from this area. For more information visit their website at www.glenfiona.com.
