{"id":670,"date":"2012-09-04T04:43:28","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T11:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/danthewineguy.com\/?p=670"},"modified":"2013-03-29T04:05:34","modified_gmt":"2013-03-29T11:05:34","slug":"rose-makes-an-excellent-choice-any-time-of-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.danthewineguy.com\/?p=670","title":{"rendered":"Rose Makes an Excellent Choice Any Time of Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve noticed as of late that Bellingham\u2019s Temple Bar has an ad proclaiming, \u201cIt\u2019s Ros\u00e9 Season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course we know that drinking a particular type of wine can\u2019t \u2013 and shouldn\u2019t \u2013 be restricted to a certain time of year. But ros\u00e9s do seem to lend themselves to summertime sipping.<\/p>\n<p>Ros\u00e9s are colorful, flavorful, and best served when slightly chilled. They also come in a wide variety of styles from dry to off-dry to sweet. This makes them extremely flexible for pairing with a number of foods such as pasta or potato salads, fried chicken, fresh fruits or just about anything else you might associate with a picnic.<\/p>\n<p>I often find that I\u2019m guilty of limiting my ros\u00e9 purchases and consumption to warmer weather months. But with summer winding down, this a great time to explore ways to continue serving ros\u00e9s year-round, instead of taking them off your shopping list until next July.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few Washington ros\u00e9s for you to consider that can be enjoyed during any season:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnard Griffin Winey 2011 Ros\u00e9 of Sangiovese <\/strong>(about $12) \u2013 No list of ros\u00e9s would be complete without a nod to winemaker Rob Griffin. This is the seventh consecutive year he\u2019s won gold medal honors or better for this wine at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. I\u2019ve yet to try this particular vintage, but the borderline ridiculous low price makes this a no-brainer to add to the shopping list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maryhill Winery 2010 Ros\u00e9 of Sangiovese <\/strong>(about $14): There\u2019s a gentle fragrance of strawberry to lead off, then more strawberry flavors in the glass along with touches of cherry tomato and pink grapefruit. The finish is crisp, lean and bone dry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert Ramsay Cellars 2011 Ros\u00e9<\/strong> (about $19) \u2013 This pale salmon-hued wine was the group favorite at a recent dinner party I hosted\u2026and with good reason. It\u2019s a gorgeous blend of grenache, cinsault and syrah, with a splash of viognier that gives it a lovely floral note. Huge, stone fruit flavors are followed by a slightly earthy\/meaty middle stage and then accentuated with a finishing note of dazzling acidity. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Tempus Cellars 2011 Ros\u00e9 of Grenache <\/strong>(about $21) \u2013 The eye-catching, shocking pink color of this wine will almost certainly get your attention; its flavors will entice you into enjoying a second glass. Mouthwatering kiwi, cranberry, strawberry and red currant predominate, with a splash of brisk acidity and a whisper of residual sugar.
