Semillon

Northstar Winery 2004 (about $20): Taking a cue from public demand, Northstar Winery in Walla Walla nullhas now begun producing small quantities of Semillon under its “Stella Blanca” label. This is one of the better Semillons I’ve tried as of late, and barrel fermentation in new French oak is part of the reason.

This process really adds a nice, creamy texture to the wine, which is also highlighted by hints of pear and vanilla. I think it has more of the characteristics of a Pinot Gris rather than the herbaceous nature of many other Semillons. If you’re a Semillon lover, this wine is a must have. It can be ordered by phoning the winery at (866) 486-7828.
