New Zealand’s Kim Crawford Wines Worth Checking Out

New Zealand wines have earned a reputation for being expressive, flavorful, and highly affordable. Few wineries personify this part of the wine world better than Kim Crawford Wines. Here are three of their current releases that are highly recommended:

2017 Pinot Gris (about $17) – Beautiful floral and honey-like fragrances lead off, with explosive flavors of mouth-watering white peach, Bartlett pear, and honeydew melon. The finish offers a big mouthfeel that’s balanced by leaner, crisper notes of ruby red grapefruit. A must for pairing with fresh shellfish and seafood. Outstanding!

2016 Pinot Noir (about $19) – The savory, umami qualities of this delicious New Zealand red wine are complemented by an ample portion of dark cherry and berry fruit. Subtle, earthy nuances underneath it all remind you that you’re indeed drinking Pinot Noir, even if it comes across as a bit more full-bodied than most. A great value at the under-$20-a-bottle price point.

2017 Sauvignon Blanc (about $18) – As you might expect, this Marlborough-based white wine provides tangy, citrus aromas along with savory green herbs and lemongrass. On the palate, there’s even more citrusy lime and grapefruit, with tropical fruit and candied lemon flavors that work together with the wine’s laser-sharp acidity.
