In Memoriam: Scott Pontin

Scott Pontin passed away suddenly on September 26, 2016.

Scott was a business operanulltor and owner of Pontin del Roza Winery in Prosser. I met Scott at the very first wine festival I attended in the Tri-Cities in 1985. At the time, there were only a handful of wineries in the entire state, and the event was held, in of all places, the Columbia Center Shopping Mall in Kennewick.

I remember that the original Pontin label was eye-catching, with it’s florescent silver and pink label. And Scott’s wines, particularly his Chenin Blanc, were memorable from the start.

From that point on, Scott was a mainstay in the Washington wine industry over the next three decades and up until the time of his death. He was instrumental in helping establish the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center in Prosser, and was actively involved in the local business and wine communities.

Scott was a long-time friend, fellow wine lover, and brother. He will be greatly missed.
